Kigali 9th March 2018 : It is important that the Government of Rwanda work with key stakeholders like Transparency International Rwanda to confirm that climate finance resources are oriented to where they are most needed and make great impact."said by Minister of Environment, the guest of honor Dr Vincent Biruta during the launching of findings on citizen report card on climate change finances project in Rwanda.

Transparency International Rwanda is implementing a project which was initiated Transparency International (International Secretariat in Berlin – Germany) to ensure effective and equitable allocation of climate finance and ultimately the delivery of climate projects and their intended adaptation and mitigation targets. The citizen report card on climate change finances projects in Rwanda was implemented as part of the project.

The survey aimed at contributing to the promotion of transparency, accountability and good governance in climate change finance.It evaluated awareness of citizens on different aspects of climate change, status of renewable energy projects from a beneficiaries’ perspective, level of transparency, accountability and participation in the management of climate change funds.

The event brought together different partners and stakeholders of the project among others but not limited to the Ministry of Environment , the representative of
German Embassy, the Director General of Rwanda Environment Management Authority ; the CEO of Rwanda Development Organization, other different government organisations, development partners and media practitioners.

This is a global project supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. The project was initially implemented in 6 countries : Bangladesh, Kenya, South Korea, Maldives, Mexico and Peru and since 2017, two additional countries joined including Rwanda. The project is also part of TI’s wider Climate Finance Integrity Programme, which has been operating since 2011 and currently works in 14 countries around the world.
