Project Title : Promotion of equitable justice in Rwanda through improved legal aid and awareness services to detainees and prisoners.

Implementing partners : ARDHO (Association Rwandaise pour la defense des Droits de l’homme).

Duration : Three years project (2016-2018)

Geographic coverage : operates in the prisons of Musanze, Rubavu, Nyamagabe and Nyagatare.

Supported by : European delegation to Rwanda.

The overall objective :of this project : “To contribute to strengthening the rule of law in Rwanda by promoting universal and equitable access to quality justice.”

Concretely the project aims at :

1. Raising awareness of the detainees/ prisoners as well as their relatives in the selected districts on the rights and procedures of access to justice.

2. Provide legal aid to vulnerable detainees and prisoners especially women and minors in the selected prisons.

3. Improve efficiency and effectiveness of the management of detainees and prisoners’ files
