Our History

Transparency International Rwanda (TI-Rwanda) was founded in 2004 with a clear mission — to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in Rwanda. Emerging at a time when the nation was rebuilding its institutions and civic trust, TI-Rwanda positioned itself as a bridge between citizens, government, and other stakeholders in the collective fight against corruption.

In September 2011, TI-Rwanda was officially accredited as the national chapter of Transparency International, joining the world’s leading anti-corruption movement with presence in over 100 countries. This recognition marked a milestone that strengthened the organization’s legitimacy and deepened its engagement in advancing good governance across Rwanda.

Over the years, TI-Rwanda has grown into a trusted voice on integrity and accountability issues — conducting evidence-based research, advocating for policy reforms, empowering citizens to demand transparency, and supporting public institutions to uphold ethical standards.

From pioneering initiatives to leading national surveys that shape policy debates, TI-Rwanda’s journey reflects measurable impact. The organization has contributed to a more open dialogue on corruption, enhanced public participation in governance, and reinforced institutional responsiveness to citizen concerns.

Today, TI-Rwanda stands as a beacon of integrity — continuously innovating to ensure that transparency becomes not just an aspiration, but a shared culture embedded in Rwanda’s development journey.
