Kigali, 16th February 2018 : "Gender Based Corruption needs attention as any other form of corruption. We have seen findings from TI-Rwanda research, we need to make sure actions are taken"Chief Gender Monitor Mrs Rose Rwabuhihi during the launch of the study findings on Gender Based Corruption in Public workplace.

She pointed out that for Gender Based Corruption to be understood and given the attention that it deserves, there was need to demystify it and create awareness because in the long-run, it has lasting negative consequences.

“This vice is like a pest. It’s never that obvious and by the time you see it, so much has been damaged. We need to fight corruption at all levels, without leaving any type behind. We may assume that we have gotten somewhere when there are some aspects that are blocking our country from progressing,” she added.

The study showed that female are most affected by Gender Based Corruption in public work place in Rwanda and the study revealed that the reporting rate of Gender Based Corruption is still low due to the lack of evidence.

"Suppose that a supervisor asks u verbally to have sex with him, which evidence would u provide if there was no one else to testify I would rather prefer to keep quiet to safeguard my job. After all the person still exert power upon me" one of the respondent said

"it is estimated that 40-50% of female &10% of male employees are targets of #sexualharrassement.Let us not forget that when we talk about figures, they are people often women behind it. If #2017 was the year of #metoo let #2018 be the year of #itisenough. Said Mrs Ruth from Decentralisation and Good Governance- GIZ program

The event attracted different stakeholders and all agreed that a special attention needs to be given to Gender Based Corruption and also it needs to be tackled to cultural perspectives since in some cases victims are blamed or authors of Gender Based Corruption are given excuses.
